What new patients look for on a dentist website

Most new patients decide on a phone, in a few minutes: do you take my insurance, can I book tonight, and do I trust this dentist? Whether they're in Old Greenwich, Stamford or Port Chester, a dental website should answer those three questions before anything else.

Insurance plans you accept and an in-house membership plan

A clear list of the PPO plans you're in network with, what out-of-network patients can expect, and your membership plan for patients without insurance, kept in one place the front desk can update.

Treatment pages for implants, Invisalign and emergencies

Separate pages for implants, Invisalign, veneers, whitening and emergency care, each covering candidacy, number of visits, recovery and financing, written with your dentists.

Dentist bios with real team photos

Education, residencies, memberships and continuing education, with real photos of your team and office.

Dental website ideas: what the best dentist websites have in common

The dental website examples that book patients share a few traits: they feel like a real office, calm nervous patients and make booking obvious on a phone. For NixMar's own recent work, see our portfolio.

Your real office on the first screen

Photos of your actual operatories, front desk and team, with a Book Online button and tap-to-call beside your hours, instead of stock smiles.

A page for nervous patients

What a first visit looks like, the sedation or comfort options you offer, and how you welcome patients who haven't seen a dentist in years.

A same-day emergency page

Toothache, broken tooth or lost crown: tell patients whether you can see them today, what to do until they arrive and how to reach you after hours.

Short video welcomes from each dentist

A thirty-second introduction filmed in your office helps patients choose a dentist they feel comfortable with before they ever call.

Online booking that works with your dental practice software

Booking is where dental sites lose patients. We embed the online scheduling your practice-management system or scheduling vendor already provides, so patients see real openings instead of a generic contact form, and we track completed requests in analytics.

Real-time online scheduling

Real-time booking where your vendor supports it, or a structured appointment request your front desk confirms.

New-patient forms that keep health information off the website

Intake and medical-history forms belong in a HIPAA-compliant forms tool whose vendor signs a business associate agreement (BAA), not in a website contact form. We link or embed that tool so health information never touches the marketing site.

HIPAA and your dental website: forms, pixels and analytics

HIPAA governs the health information your website collects and shares. We separate three kinds of forms: a general contact form that asks for no health details, a minimal appointment request, and intake forms handled by a vendor that signs a BAA. Our guide to HIPAA-compliant forms and analytics for dental websites covers which vendors need a BAA and a safe stack for a small practice.

Tracking pixels after the 2024 court ruling

In June 2024 a federal court vacated the part of HHS's online-tracking guidance that treated an IP address plus a visit to a public health page as protected health information, and HHS withdrew its appeal that August. The rest still stands: tracking on logged-in pages, patient portals and forms that collect health information remains a HIPAA issue, so ad pixels stay off those pages.

Every third-party script, listed

Any vendor that receives protected health information from your site, such as a forms, chat or scheduling provider, needs a signed BAA. We document every script on the site so your privacy officer can check each one.

Dental website ADA compliance and Section 504 deadlines

Practices that receive federal financial assistance from HHS, for example by accepting Medicaid (HUSKY Health in Connecticut), are covered by HHS's 2024 Section 504 rule, which adopts WCAG 2.1 Level AA for websites and apps. After a one-year extension announced in May 2026, the deadline is May 11, 2027 for recipients with 15 or more employees and May 10, 2028 for smaller ones. Practices outside the rule still face ADA website claims, so we build every dental site to WCAG 2.1 AA. See who is covered and a 90-day plan in our Section 504 web accessibility deadline guide.

Accessibility barriers we fix first

Keyboard access to booking, labeled form fields, color contrast, alt text, captions on videos and accessible versions of downloadable forms, the barriers that most often stop patients.

Dental website SEO and local search in Fairfield County

Patients search for a dentist near them, whether they're in Greenwich, Stamford or Norwalk, and the map results come from your Google Business Profile. We match your site's name, address and phone to that profile, add Dentist structured data, build a page for each real office location and link a review request you send to every patient, never only the happy ones. Our local SEO service handles the ongoing work.

Custom dental website vs templates and dental marketing platforms

Dentists usually weigh three routes: a website builder, a dental marketing platform with templates and pre-written content on a monthly plan, or a custom site built around your office and the scheduling tools you already use, which you own outright.

Three ways to get a dental practice website. Third-party pricing varies by vendor and plan.

Questions dentists ask about a new website

What should a dental website include?

At minimum: the insurance plans you accept and any membership plan, online booking, a page for each core and cosmetic treatment, dentist bios with real photos, emergency and after-hours details, and accessible forms that ask for no health information. Smile galleries and video build trust on top of that.

Can patients book appointments directly on our website?

Yes. We embed the online scheduling your practice-management system or scheduling vendor provides, so patients see real openings. If your system doesn't support online booking, we build a structured appointment request that your front desk confirms.

Does a dental website have to be HIPAA compliant?

HIPAA doesn't certify websites, but it governs any protected health information your site collects or shares. Keep intake and medical-history forms in a vendor that signs a BAA, keep ad pixels off pages where patients enter health information, and use a contact form that doesn't ask for health details.

When does our practice need to meet WCAG 2.1 AA?

If your practice receives federal financial assistance from HHS, such as Medicaid payments, the Section 504 rule applies: May 11, 2027 for practices with 15 or more employees and May 10, 2028 for smaller practices, after the one-year extension HHS announced in May 2026.

How much does a dental practice website cost?

Dental practice websites start at $2,500 and single-service landing pages at $699. Third-party scheduling and forms tools are billed by those vendors. You get a fixed-scope quote before we start.

Can you redesign our site without losing Google rankings?

Yes. We keep the pages and content that already rank, redirect every old URL to its new equivalent, and check Google Search Console after launch.
